Thornton Melon (Dangerfield) is a self-made success: He owns a chain of Big and Fat clothing stores, and his son Jason (Keith Gordon) writes him glowing letters about his collegiate accomplishments. But on a surprise visit to his son's campus, Thornton learns that Jason's life as BMOC is completely fictional and that he is actually despised by the entire student body. There's only one thing for a dad to do - enroll! Before you can say "toga party," Thornton is shaking things up in the hallowed halls of academia. He elevates the beer bust to new heights of lavish decadence with big-name rock bands and Playboy bunny types. He's doing more than just homework with his beautiful professor (Sally Kellerman). And despite his best intentions, his antics only alienate him from his son...until a villainous professor concocts a plan to flunk Thornton out for good, unless Jason can save him.
