Whipping Star, by Frank Herbert
Finished Whipping Star - what a cool book! I admit to getting a little mired
down in some of the conversations with the very alien Fannie Mae which are intended to be
confusing - I could spend more time with them and probably get more out of those.
And the name was hilarious - I had to check publication date - I was hopeful that
whoever started that actual finance company was a Herbert fan but I suppose it
predates the book by quite a bit! (SPOILELR) Fascinating resolution to the whole thing, to
realize that the calibans are stars and what that means and how they manifest
themselves etc. Really cool concepts, and in such a terse 188 pages! And so many
alien creatures created with alternative biology - I wonder how much those cross his
other books or all just created for this short work? I should definitely pick up the second McKie one.
