You've Been Sentenced!
Tonight's entertainment included playing a new word based game, You've Been Sentenced.
If you are into word play, you'll certainly enjoy this game. You've Been Sentenced
consists of cards, each with a word in various states (for example flew, fly,
flies, flying on one card) or a set of words that are a similar type like several
prepositions, that are used to create sentences.
Words are assigned point values
for keeping score. Each player draws 10 cards and then attempts to be the first
person to form a sentence using as many cards as possible, ideally with words worth
the highest point values possible. This early finisher gets a 10 point bonus for
being first. After the first person has completed a sentence, the remaining
players have one minute to finish their sentences in an effort to compete point-wise
with the first finisher.
This game encourages language development, fast thinking, and creativity. In
one game to 200 points, the variety of sentences with just three people were highly
entertaining, adding to the fun. This game is great not just for children, but
also for those wishing to practice thinking on their feet and keeping their
brains sharp
We also played with an extra card pack expansion that was
NASA themed--great for the more scientifically inclined and also interesting to see
how the players incorporate these traditionally rocket science oriented words
into regular sentences. All in all, You've Been Sentenced is a great game to
play with a group, trying to come up with the craziest grammatically correct
sentence that still makes sense.
